"The back-up I receive from the company is first class. I also think their commitment to postgraduate education, in the quality of the courses they promote, is unrivalled. These surely help other dental surgeons to hugely develop their skills in the field of implant dentistry. Appropriate, researched, structured training is of paramount importance in implant dentistry."

Comprehensive, hands-on introduction to implant treatment

Issued: Monday, 14 October 2013

Dentists who want to learn to place implants can choose from six comprehensive courses in 2014 supported by DENTSPLY Implants.  Lasting up to 12 months, each programme provides a blend of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training to equip delegates with the skills to start treating their own patients.  Full details of courses around the UK are available in the postgraduate education prospectus at www.courses4implants.com.

The year programmes are aimed at dentists with little or no direct experience of implant treatment.  Dr Martin Sulo found the training on the Basic Implant Surgery and Prosthetic Modular Implant Programme in Essex to be, “pitched at a perfect level for GDPs who wanted effective postgraduate teaching in their spare time".

The content of each course goes through the entire treatment process, from identifying suitable cases to the final restoration.  Dr Paul McKenna describes the Interactive Surgery and Prosthetics programme in Belfast as, “An ideal course for anyone looking to get started in implants.”  Dr Tim Windsor explains how Implants in Theory and Practice in London has helped him get started, “I have come away with the confidence to plan and treat simple cases.”

Delegates who have attended these courses have said that both their practices and patients gain from the introduction of dental implant treatment.  According to Dr Matt Jones, who trained on the Bath Spa Implantology Year Programme, “The business will benefit financially and I am keeping up with the latest professional skills."

After completing the Scottish Implant Year Course in Glasgow, Dr Nigel Fitter commented,In the year prior to attending the course I referred about £100K of implant business, of which about 75 percent were single tooth cases.  I will now be able to treat these patients myself, generating about £50K for my practice."  Dr Robert Baker, who attended An Implant Course with a Difference in London, added, “My patients now have the convenience of having implant treatment in their own dental practice with a practitioner they know."
All of the year programmes supported by DENTSPLY Implants give delegates the opportunity to treat their own patients under supervision as part of the practical training.  With over 400 hours of CPD available on these well-established courses, attendees are able to learn how to plan and treat straightforward implant cases with confidence.  Dentists wishing to take the first steps into this rapidly growing field of dentistry can find more information on www.courses4implants.com
